Wynn Welcomes the Auspicious Year of the Golden Pig with Vibrant Celebrations

This Chinese New Year, Wynn is also pleased to have participated in Macao Government Tourism Office mega event: "Celebrations of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region – Parade for Celebration of the Year of the Pig". All of the floats in the parade featured local cuisines in recognition of Macau's "UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy" status. Drawing inspiration from traditional new year favorites of black moss and oysters, the theme for this year's float is "A Prosperous Good City". There is a great deal of symbolism in this name. In Cantonese, the name for "black moss" sounds just like the word for "prosperous" while "oyster" sounds like "good city". Macau was once a small fishing village, with an abundance of oysters. "Oyster" in Cantonese also sounds like a former nickname for Macau. Now, 20 years since Macau's return to China, the city has flourished with phenomenal economic growth and has become a world-class tourism and leisure center. The Wynn float also features traditional Chinese paper-cut art full of flowers and a cute golden pig – all designed to wish Macau residents and visitors a very happy and prosperous year ahead.
On February 11 and 12, the Wynn management team hosted a lion eye-dotting ceremony to celebrate the arrival of an auspicious new year. More than 100 members of the lion dance team danced to the beat of the drums, and 800,000 firecrackers were set off in honor of the year of the Golden Pig. After the performance, the energetic dragon and lion dance performers marched into Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace, visiting all of the major areas of the hotel and "plucking the green", a symbolic way of spreading blessings of good luck and fortune to everyone at Chinese New Year.
